Ebikes Regulations

On July 01 2009, the Alberta government passed through new definitions for "power bicycles and mopeds" within the "Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation", in order to be consistent with federal regulations which define them as a power-assisted bicycle and limited speed motorcycle.

The new definitions for "power bicycles" requirements include:

-  Electric motors may not exceed a max power of 500w

-  Top speed is limited to 32km/h

No weight restrictions (was restricted to 35kg)

-  Definition and requirements now apply to all power assisted bicycles
